First Grade...

Here she comes!

I can't believe my baby girl is all done with Kindergarten. This year has gone by so fast and I just don't know where all the time has gone. Natalie had a great year and loved every minute of school. Next year, she will be the only Asay at Chipeta. This was the only year ever that she will be at the same school with Madeline. The next time that Natalie will have a sibling at the same school with her is when she is in 5th grade and Ben is in Kindergarten! Crazy! I am so proud of Natalie for her great year and for all her hard work learning how to read and write! Way to go Natalie Mae!

We're Growing Up...

It's Okay Mom

Madeline's 5th Grade Continuation

Madeline had her 5th grade continuation on Monday. Brig's mom came down to support Madeline since Brig was out of town.  It is a great day for the kids and an emotional one for the parents.  All the 5th grade kids wear the tie dye shrits that they made in Art class and they sing the song "Lean On Me" with sign language, presidential awards were handed out (Madeline received the silver award for grades and test scores signed by President Obama) and the kids do the neatest thing called "My Three Words".  The 5th grade kids sat in groups of three and were circled around the parents. The song "Seasons of  Love" was playing which is a tear jerker song anyway. Each group has a phrase written out on poster board that they stand and hold up one word at a time.
Madeline's word was "UP" in We're Growing Up.  The group following then held up
"It's okay Mom."

The Lyrics to the song made me think about all Madeline has accomplished this year.

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets
In midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
In five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, a year in the life?

In truths that she learned
Or in times that he cried
In bridges he burned
Or the way that she died

It's time now, to sing out
Though the story never ends
Let's celebrate
Remember a year in the life of friends

Madeline's 5th grade year can be measured by: Her trip to
High Trails, the Revolutionary Ball, Field Day, speaking and singing parts in the 5th grade play, being elected to student council, all A's almost every quarter, being a finalist for the science fair, having one of the top 5 posters for the saying no to tobacco campaign, almost making it to the handball tournament and qualifying for Nationals at the State Gymnastics meet, Pajama Day, class parties, Garden of the Gods, State City, and fun with good friends!
